Help- Vegas 6 not seeing my camera

vidiot57 wrote on 5/6/2005, 6:07 PM
Hello,

Running Vegas 6.0a (build 99) I have new FX1 Sony camera.. So far my computer and Vegas 6 refuse to see my camera via firewire when the camera is in the HDV mode.. I read the help files and turned on the external controller.. put the camera in the standard DV mode.. and went into capture.. Vegas sees the camera and i can contol it.. thats good...but when I turn off the external controller, and go into the Prefernces panel , hit the Device tab, and select IEEE 1394/Mpeg2_TS Device, ok, but it says I should see some selections to choose from in the Device area.. I see none..and it does not appear to be active, and below that it says No Device Properties..
Any help here ?? Its very frustrating that a sony camera does not talk to a piece of sony software right out of the box..

it may be a windows issue.
You may need to go into Windows Control Panel/System/Imaging Devices, and install the Sony DVCR driver.

Hello,

thanks for responding, i did not see that particular area (imaging devices) in the control panel.. i did see something that was without a driver in the Sytems area "AV/C Subunit".. i tried to force it to install a driver for it.. the computer went to the internet, but came back and said it could not install it.. ??
Frustrating..

go to the AVC Subunit
Tell it you'll locate the drivers yourself
Go to Sound, Video, Game controllers
Locate the Sony Driver, there are two, I've forgotten which one it is right now. it's the tope one of the two. That'll fix you up

Hello,
no luck.. Tried to find it.. but so far I cannot.. it would be really frigging convinent if the system would tell you what the NAME of the Driver its looking for is.. I guess that asking for to much Mr. Gates..
Well itoday started out really good..

Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>AVC Subunit with no driver Right click to Update Driver Tell Windows you'll locate driver yourself.
Browse to the Sound, Video, Game Controllers.
In there, you'll find two Sony driver options, choose the top one.
In there, you'll find two Sony driver options. Choose the upper one.

Connect the FX1, it will be found.

Hello,

i follow you all the way up until you say to browse to sound, video and game controllers.. (i do not have a folder called that) when i am browsing i am looking at folders and files.. just like it is window explorer.. I looked in the c:windows\system32/drivers folder (which is where it should be.. but when i point it to there it does not seem to find what it is looking for.. i only wish i knew what the name of the file is.. that would be a huge help..

No, in the drivers area, when you update the driver, you are needing to do it in the dialogs, you never leave the dialogs. I guess I'm not explaining this well. Windows will lead you to the correct driver if you follow the steps I outlined above. I did this just earlier today, as someone else needed the same steps on a different forum.
Right click the AVC Subunit, choose UPDATE DRIVER. NEVER leave the dialogs that start to come up.
when you browse to the drivers available, choose the Sony D-VHS driver. That's the one I just now browsed to, and it's all good.

Hello,

Well I am feeling pretty dumb right now.. anyway i see what you mean about the list.. ( I was not right clicking, but left clicking) but the bad news is, I still do not have sucess.. the things you are telling me i am not seeing, they are close but not quite the same.. I am really really frustrated right now, and it is getting late here.. i have been up for a long time, so i am packing it in for the night..
Hopefully this can get resolved tommorow..

thanks,
mike m.

Spot,

Just getting started with Vegas 6.0a and an HDR-FX1 and am having some related problems trying to capture HDV.

First of all, which project settings are appropriate to the FX1 HDV, 1440x1080 or 1920x1080?

Secondly, Vegas seems to see and control the FX1, initially via a Microsoft driver. I assume that needs to be changed to a Sony driver, but, like Mike, I am having difficulty following your instructions to accomplish this. (I am running Windows 2000, and things do not seem to correspond, precisely)

I tried changing the driver via the driver tab for the device in device manager. There was only one choice listed under Sony, a Sony 1394 CCM-DS250 Desktop Camera driver. I updated to this driver. Is this the proper driver? If not, where do I find the proper driver?

Both the original Microsoft driver and the above Sony driver seem to control the FX1, but neither seems to capture anything. In both cases, when I try to capture, the FX1 runs as if capturing, but the preview screen in the capture window stays black (except for text associated with the process), and, when I stop, the capture summary is zeroed out. My guess would be that it's looking for DV and not finding it.

By the way, the preview screen in the capture window remains 4:3, not 16:9. (The preview screen in the main window looks to be 16:9.)

Anything you could do to help me on my way would be appreciated.

Spot,

Where do I opt for a two stage capture (i.e. initial capture to an .m2t file)? (My system is not ultra fast - uses a 2 GHz athlon).
