HELP! Video quality coming out low quality

mikebrooks wrote on 9/19/2010, 3:51 PM
All of the sudden, all my videos I render come out very grainy and low quality.

I have been using vegas 10 with no issues for a while. this week, every video i make takes 3 times as long to render and poor quality.

The only thing i can think of is that I recently downloaded some software to convert mp4 into flv. maybe that could have hosed something?

I use a mino hd flip for creating video and the quality is always good.

I am at a loss here. I have uninstalled and reinstalled vegas. i have updated the drivers for my video card.

i am looking for some help on what to do. i really don't want to have to restore this pc back to factory settings to fix this problem.

Are you sure you're rendering to the same file type, template, and custom settings that you were using before? Since you don't list any of these details at all it's pretty difficult to even start guessing.

Another thing to check, is your Flip set to record the same resolution and bitrate quality that it was before?

Those pocket camcorders have some standard def modes that are pretty crummy.

I had not changed anything on the camera. plus i tested it with my good video camera and same result.

I didn't change the default settings on the software either.

Could it be the codecs? someone on another forum mentioned because I installed other video tools it could be the codecs.

I tried a system restore which didn't help. I also deleted all the other tools.

If you are certain your camera settings have not changed, follow Kelly's suggestions step-by-step. It is unlikely that installing an flv codec would affect Vegas in any way.

But out of curiosity, what is the name of the converter?

I am certain the camera settings have not changed. besides, the raw video from the camera before rendering through vegas looks perfect.

One tool was MovAvi. I cannot recall the other tools. I installed them once to find they didn't do what i wanted and then uninstalled them.

Since then i have tried restoring the system to farther back then what i thought was the download of those tools and this did not work. so it may not even be that.

I also tried uninstalling a reinstalling the vegas software.

other than putting my pc back to the way it was when i got it, i have no idea what else to do.

I am not sure what you mean by follow Kelly's step by step instructions. where are thoes?

We need to know what format the files from the camera are. We also need to know what format you are rendering to, what template you're using, and any custom settings you've changed. Of particular importance is bitrate. Quality is related to bitrate more than to any other option or setting. Lots of beginners have no idea what bitrate is or what it does, and therefore may change it without realizing they've done anything different.

Sorry, Kelly's screen name is Chienworks. The steps he posted above he has now repeated.

To help you understand the things he has asked for, I have posted an article. All of the information he has requested can be found starting in File->Render As or the file properties as reported by MediaInfo.

Suggest you read the article first.

One suggestion would be take 2 renders - one that came out good and the other poor. Use mediaInfo (free download). Post the report that you get for each file into the forum. It may be as simple as just comparing the two side by side to see what was changed.
