Help w/New Computer & V4

The big day is almost here. After buying ready-to-run computers, I just got done building a new machine. I just installed Windows XP on a 2.4GHz P4 with dual HDs and 1 gig RAM. I hope to be installing Vegas 4 this weekend.

I have a 80 gig HD as primary and a 200 gig HD secondary.

What are the "fatal" mistakes to be avoided in configuring my new system?

Vegas is really solid - I don't think you should have any issues.
Keep your image files on the secondary drive, and defrag it a lot.
Don't let it get "filled to the top". I like to leave 20% empty space, but have been able to export from the timeline with as little as 5% empty.

I would be concerned about how you setup your 200 gig drive. I have 4 hard drives (120 c:, 80 gig d:, 120 gig e: and the last is a 200 gig (divided into 135 and 55gig). I would partitian your 200 into 135 and 55. The controller may handle 200, but many utilities (including defag utilities that Vic is referring to) do not work past the 140 gig barrier. I use my 135 for video storage and, until I need it, and use my 55 for backup.

I hope this helps.

Do you keep your Vegas media bin files in the secondary drive? Do you edit and render on the secondary drive? Do you have your Vegas software on the primary drive with the OS?
