Help with Aspect Ratios

I am a newbie at this, and would appreciate a little help. My source is NTSC miniDV. The project I am opening is set to all the DV/NTSC parameters (720X480 and .9091 aspect). When I view captured video in the preview screen at 1/2 (720X480) it seems a bit left/right stretched. When I capture a still and preview it from the media pool it looks accurate (only 654X480) . . . when I drag same still to the timeline it's stretched (720X480) . . . Could someone explain this aspect ratio stuff to me . . does the .9091 pixel ratio for NTSC DV affect the rendered output so it isn't stretched like it is in preview? - in which case all the stills and video in the timeline should look equally stretched? Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated.

Thanks, Adam

have you tried to right-click the preview window and check the "square pixel" option?

The easiest answer to your question is to right-click on the video preview window and select Square Pixels. This will tell Vegas to horizontally shrink the picture to give it the same dimensions as a television screen. 720 horizontal pixels on your computer screen is wider than on a television - hence the discrepency.
