HELP with video

I have a client that wanted me to put the videos I did for him (corporate type stuff) onto standard sized and Mini CDs. I used Microsoft Frontpage to create the two different sized "presentations" onto the seperate disks. Problem is that to fit these onto Mini CDs I had to render them as wmv9 files, and now I am finding that some wont play (unless they download a file...codec maybe?). And the ones that do, sometimes stop and or stutter on some machines.
Is there a way to render mpg1 files so they're smaller in size (the standard sized CDs I rendered as mpg1s work fine in all PCs)? This client really wants to use the Mini CDs in mail outs. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks all.

MPEG 1 can be rendered up to 1.8Mbps, but you can also take the data rate down as well. Have you tried this? Quality will be bad, but if you want MPEG1...it's either shorter video, or lower bitrate. Gotta trade one for the other.

spots right -- one or the other , you could also try to use a lower frame rate or a smaller resolution (nether of which will make the file smaller on their own - but will allow you to use a lower data rate for better quality - which will lower the file size)

what about quicktime as an alternative?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't tried this...to be honest, I'm not really sure how. Is this achieved by reducing the constant bit rate setting?

I guess I thought wmv might be more "universal" (being that most companies run PC), but I'm certainly open to suggestions at this point! Thanks.

what size (resolution) is your video? you could take it 320x180 size and maybe down to 1meg/s or a little lower - though i would not be happy with itcompared to the better wmv9 codec.

keep in mind that mpeg1 is progressive only .. so if you are feeding it interlaced -- well its coming out progressive -


i suggested QT as a possibility that just about everyone (and all macs) will have QT installed (still not a sure thing)

-- or use the wmv7/8 codec instead which is much more universal that wmv9 (but also lower quality) ..

prob. using wmv7/8 is the best solution overall .. - except if there are mac users , they can view it, but first will have to download a codec if not installed.

File originally is 720 x 480. I may just try to live with the wmv and just hope that people can download the proper file (codec) to run it. I was just hopein' that I could use mpeg1 to assure that the files would run without any drama. thanks.
