Help with Video Overlays - Rab byte files

Chrissy wrote on 2/17/2005, 8:42 PM
Okay, I'm a mule. I bought some of the Rab-Byte animations that you can fill the black part in with your pictures or videos. I've gone over a couple of chapters from a couple of Vegas video tutorials and I still can't figure this out.

I need help knowing what where I put things on the tracks and what "compositing" settings I need to switch so that I can see my pix & video through the black area of the animation. (they are in quick time format.)

Thanks in advance, Chrissy

Are the black areas transparent? In other words, is it a 32 bit file with an alpha channel? If not, you'll need to use a chromakey or secondary color correction tool to create a mask that will allow the video to show through the black area.
Right click the Rab-byte file, choose properties. In the Media Tab, choose the Alpha Channel dropdown. Set it to PreMultiply. The Rab-byte clip should be on top of the one you want to show through, acting as a mask.
[edit] looking at their website, they are pjpegs, which means they can't have a transparency, so you'll have to use a keying tool to cut these areas out, unless you bought some of their clips that have the chroma/luma masks already made. Looks like several do.

Okay. I'm looking in your Vegas 4 book. But I have Vegas 5. I'm guessing it's going to be the same way to do it.?

Chrissy,
Make sure you have only one keyframe at the start of the Chroma Key FX that you add to the event that has the black areas. And only stup that one keyframe. Use the eyedropper from the FX window to sample the balck area of your timeline event to the Chroma Key FX. Make sure your main timeline cursor is over the event you are working on.
