HERE WE GO AGAIN!! RECORDING AUDIO CRASHING!!

ZippyGaloo wrote on 10/9/2003, 1:58 PM
Well I tried to stay away...actually I wasn't having many problems BUT that has obviously changed.

My latest problem is with RECORDING AUDIO!!!

I arm the track. Fine.
I record the audio. Crash.
I restart the program.
I arm the track. Fine.
I record the audio. Crash.
WTF!!!
I restart the program.
I arm the track. Fine.
I record the audio. What do you know it took.
I review the audio. I don't like it and "right click" delete.
Audio clip goes away. I decide I want it back and hit edit menu "undo". FREEZE CRASH HARD!!!

WTF IS GOIN ON!!

I'M TIRED OF VEGAS BEING CALLED STABLE WHEN IT CRASHES...HARD!!!

I THOUGHT IT HAD IT'S ROOTS IN AUDIO EDITING?

I should make a list of all the problems with Vegas....better not otherwise people won't buy it.!!

How about posting this to the "Vegas - Audio Topics" forum with some info about your setup - maybe the chaps there can help.

I wish I could help, but I can't duplicate the problem on either of my Vegas systems. I just did a vioce recording thorugh my soundcard the same way you posted and everything worked fine on both machines.

The liklihood is very high that it is a driver issue, not a Vegas issue, since this is one of only two or three references to crashing associated with audio, out of the hundreds of Vegas installations that aren't crashing. Does the same thing occur on your backup computer? (You do have a backup computer, don't you?)

ZiPee,

Your subject is listed as, "HERE WE GO AGAIN!! RECORDING AUDIO CRASHING!!" It's really, "Here YOU go again!!"

There are thousands of people cheerfully recording audio in Vegas with no problems whatsoever. I would look to your soundcard drivers as being the culprit. Now, go away until you have a REAL Vegas problem to complain about.

Zippy: What sound card are you using? What sound card settings? Crashing is not normal behavior of course, but we have tested a TON of soundcards/configurations and can probably tell you how to get past the problem.

We'll need your info first- you can post it here or in the Vegas>audio forum.

Nvidia Nforce2 Soundstorm Dolby Digital APU audio.

Realtek® ALC650 6CH w/built in HP amplifier
Integrated APU (Audio Processor Unit)
SoundStorm™ / Dolby® Digital (AC-3) Encoder

Nvidia ASIO driver.

Zippy: Try using one of the non-asio drivers, mapper for starters. Crash or no crash?

One NOTE and a few COMMENTS and a QUESTION.

NOTE: My project is on a 24FPS Timeline. The audio/video were captured with a Panasonic AG-DVX100.

COMMENTS:

1. The Nvidia ASIO driver works fine (no crashes/problems) with a NEW project, but NOT with my existing 24fps timeline project.

2. The Nvidia ASIO driver crashes Vegas 4.0d with this prompt;
"The instruction at "0x77f58ddf" referenced memory at "0xff14ff0d" The memory could not be "written". And then the program fails!!

3. Using the "Microsoft Sound Mapper" audio preference allows me to capture audio (in other words it seems to fix my problem)...BUT

QUESTION:

1. What about my 5.1 sound mixes and mapping channels out to my speakers? (Does this mean I have to change the audio preference from "Microsoft Sound Mapper" to "Nvidia ASIO driver" each and every time I record to the timeline?

If so, THAT YANKS AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY!! YOU HEAR ME SONYFO?!!!

Can the audio bitrate be the problem. many ASIO drivers works only in 48K?
