Here we go again... VF demands I register, again!

wvg wrote on 8/31/2001, 12:10 AM
Why Me? I'm asking rhetorically. I should know better. These kind of things always happen to me, I should expect them. Like my first electric train when I was six years old. I plug it in, it only runs backwards. What's the chances of getting the ONE engine out of thousands that were sold that was wired backwards?

But I degress...

I finished downloading and installing version 2.0a. All went well until I tried to use the cookie cutter filter. Again it nags to register. If I do it will be at least the 8th time I jumped through that hoop.

I don't understand if nobody else is experiencing this annoyance! I deliberately left version 2.0 on my system to avoid this problem guessing version 2.0a would be smart enough to detect the old version and overwrite the older version. It did, but again it wants me to register before I can use the cookie cutter.

Well at least I don't have to re register the mpeg filter, at least not yet, but I'm half expecting VF will ask again for that too. LOL!

Well, if it makes you feel better... :)

Last night I installed my new ATI All-In-Wonder board. Every time I ran the TV application, it made me go through the stupid initial setup routines again. Finally after going through it several times in the first 5 hours, and rebooting several times, and then installing the new version from the web site, it took hold and quit asking. Some bit just wasn't getting set somewhere in the system. I was about to start digging into the registry when if finall quit.

What is Cookie Cutter?

Ahh....! Someone else using the ATI All-In_Wonder with VF! I have the Radeon board and the two products were getting along so-so.... until I upgraded from version 7.0 of the ATI media center to 7.1. Along with the upgrade to VF 2.0 and/or 2.0a I still can't render mp2 without choppy video and audio way out of sync.
Are you using the Readon board? What version of the ATI media center are you using? VF 2.0? CPU? RAM? Are you even trying to render mp2?

Yes I have a ATI AIW Radeon video card. I don't have the ATI media center installed. I have zero rendering problems with Video Factory. My problem was VF requiring multiple registrations. In my case Video Factory nags me worse then my mother-in-law.

So far, I've collected 9 different unlock codes from customer "service" and NONE worked correctly. Totally hit or miss. I finally got a unlock code that worked, then when I installed V2 build 90, again for the NINTH time VF demanded I register, yet the MPEG plug in works, now only the cookie cutter doesen't. How nuts is that? Sonic Foundy is playing "dumb" on this issue since I'm apparently the only one that brought it to their attention, at least is this forum.

OK... this is going to sound stupid, but how are you getting video into your machine?
wvg wrote on 9/13/2001, 2:37 PM
So far I haven't even attempted any camera input since I'm in need of a new video camera. So all my input is from prexisting MPG source files. I'm not having any trouble using VF.

The issue is I have already registered multiple times. I lost count. I think 8 or 9 times already.

Originally, I could not use the MPEG plugin even after getting a bunch of unlock codes from customer service, none except for the last one working completely. Now I just can't use the cookie cutter option after installing the latest build, not that it is a big deal. I'm still very curious why it seems to only be me at least in the forum having this odd problem.

Cookie Cutter is a nifty new feature in VF 2.0 that allows you to crop a
video stream to a somewhat arbitrary shape (instead of just a plain
rectangle) and overlay this cropped video on top of another clip. Cool!
This is more or less a feature i had asked SF about adding back when i
first registered VF 1.0, and they included it in the new version, but
vastly more capable than what i had aske for. Thanks SF! :-)

To access it, place a clip in the Video Overlay track, and another clip
in the regular video track. Click on the Video FX tab, and choose
Cookie Cutter from the menu. There are 14 different types of cutters.
Drag one onto the Overlay clip and a Video Properties window opens to
allow you to play with the shape and positioning.

Try it. It's cool!

PING chienworks, others that can remember if you use the cookie cutter...

Just curious, do you remember having to register the cookie cutter seperately AFTER you already have registered the product and the mpeg plug-in? That's my weird predicament.

I have VF installed on two machines. Can't access them both at the same time, so no license violation... and Sonic Foundry gave me two seperate unlock codes. They worked, until I installed version 2, then...

On the machine that has internet access it constantly nags me every time I start up the application, telling me to register. Remember I have already, at least 8 times. Four times for each machine. Grrrrrr.

On the machine not connected to the Internet VF does no nagging at all and is quite happy to let me use the cookie cutter feature and did so for version one and two, but it nagged to register the mpeg plug-in over and over until finally I got a unlock code that made that install of VF happy.

Both machines have virtually the same install base of software. One is upstairs, the other downstairs.

wvg, i'm trying to remember exactly what happened, but it was over a
month ago and the ol' memory ain't what it used to be ....

When i did the registration (both on an online computer and an offline
one), i was told that i needed to register in order to get access to the
advanced features such as cookie cutter. I sent in the registration
information, received my activation codes and installed them (this
process was automatic for the online computer) and it was done.

I'm truly sorry to hear you're having such difficulty, but registration
really has been that simple and easy a process for every SF title i've
installed and registered.

When you say mpg... which version are you dealing with? My problem involves .mp2 files.

When I entered my registration number, it gave a screen that said I had access to Cookie Cutter. I did have to register MPEG seperately.
