Hgihlighting text

Roscoe1 wrote on 10/14/2002, 7:51 AM
Having trouble trying to highlight text in a specific manner. I want to split the screen (no problem) have person performing a training skill on the left with the list of steps on the right (no problem). The problem is trying to highlight step 1 and not the others, step 1 is highlighted while person performs step 1, then switch to step 2 highlighted etc. I can highlight the whole page, but I can't highlight the individual steps.
Thanks or any help

Use keyframes. At the appropriate points in time (in "Edit Generated Media") add a keyframe and highlight the text as needed.

If you alter the size of the text the lines will jump on the page - you don't want that, so use colour or something else to highligh with.

Hi Roscoe1,

You might try using two layers of text, one with border/highlight and one without. You could then easily add a wide-short mask layer above the top text-layer to create the effect of only one line of text having the highlight.

(This effect works fine using a mask on the layer for the other side of the page.)

My example:

Track1: Vertical split-screen mask for left side (video), using Linear Gradient background generator (made edge hard)
Track2: Video footage
Track3: Wide short mask (Vegas gradient rectangle background, B&W)
Track4: Text with border
Track5: Text without border

At the appropriate point in the script/action, you can simply move the mask down to reveal the next highlighted text.

Nice tip! A tweak to this method would be to use a copy of the generator with an FX instead of changing the text color or border. Then, mask and reveal as in your tip.

Excellent tips...

I especially like the light-rays idea, adding a subtle motion to it could be real nice.

Party-on, people.
