Hi-Def N00b, have pitty

So I just got my first Hi-Def shooting and editing job. Ive only had my new Hi-Def camera 2 months, and have played with it some. I really want to do a good job, this could lead to many open doors for me. I have experience shooting and editing regular video, so I understand camera work and VMSP7.

I would like to get any advice you guys could share with me when it comes to importing, exporting and anything else that would be different from editing regular video. Should I go into the "preferences" and make any changes? what settings should I be using to import and export the video. any helpful hints at all would be greatly appreciated.

I am using a Sony HDR FX-7 1080p camera if that helps. Importing with a firewire. using Hi-Def Mini-DV tapes

Thanks in advance

I have experience shooting and editing regular video, so I understand camera work and VMSP7. You may want to upgrade to VMS 8 Plat or full Vegas Pro 8. VMS 8 plat is much better for working with HDV then version 7. According to want I've read the FX7 shoots standard HDV and standard DV (not 1080P). Video is video, you basically work with High Definition following the same rules as standard definition. There's no mystery except your working with larger frame sizes & higher bit-rates.
VMS 8 Plat has the necessary templates to capture, edit & output the HDV to file or convert it to other formats. Vegas Pro 8 lets you edit and tweak many of these settings while VMS 8 plat restricts to you it's default template. Vegas Pro 8 will also let you output & customize to other formats such as HD avc/h264 (avchd), blu-ray formats.
