SO I just finished 2 projects, and was feeling pretty good, I followed jkrepner link to the You Tube Star Wars, and it is pretty funny.
On top of the list is this beer cannon video

Pretty cool machine for people with too much time on their hands, BUT at 1:35 to 1:45, they show a high speed camera. Can you identify it? Pretty awesome pics of the action and a well done photo montage here,

Now I want one add I know it will be way out of my price range, but we all need a goal. John

If you like high speed cameras you'll find this interesting:

The camera used in the YouTube video looks like a pretty standard unit, you can get upto 5000fps at around $45K.
High speed cameras are basically one shot. The images sequence is written continuosly to RAM and you stop writing when you've got the shot. From my brief look into purchasing a rig, the big cost is in that RAM, not the camera. Depends on how fast you want to go and how many seconds of storage you need.

Needless to say renting this stuff when needed is the most sensible approach.

PS, you'll see high speed 35mm cameras on eBay from time to time, they seem to go pretty cheaply but you need to factor in a lot of associated costs AND make certain you're getting all the bits needed to run the thing.
