I’ve noticed that under certain conditions the CPU usage with V5d and an MOTU 24 I/O, using the latest ASIO drivers, seem excessive when recording 24 tracks.
For example when I record 24 tracks at 88.2 and 24 bit depth the CPU usage goes from near zero to 35% when I arm the tracks and it then goes to about 80% when actually recording. Recording was perfect with no crackles.
By contrast setting the bit depth to 16 the CPU drops to 8% when armed 20% when recording.
CPU is a 2.5G P4 running XP SP2 and the latest MOTU drivers. The XP system is a skinny version dedicated to recording (no virus scan, minimum services, etc.).
Is this normal?
Thanks. Larry
