Highway advancing center-line effect??

kentwolf wrote on 1/4/2008, 10:35 PM
Would any of you have any idea how I could go about creating a visual as if one is moving down a highway with the centerline advancing toward you/me/us? I guess I would need to be able to make some sort of perpetual looping effect, but I would probably actually only need about 90 seconds.

While shooting the footage would accomplish the objective, it's not practical in this application.

Just wonder some ideas you all might have that might get me heading in the right direction.

I have a bunch of video tools here, just seeking some ideas as to how I might implement them to create this effect.

Thanks.

I would use a paint program and draw a grey (asphalt color) background and
paint a SOLID line or stripe. Then I would create a small image of the gray
background color.

In vegas instead of moving the line we are going to move the grey box/rectangle
instead breaking up the line using pan/crop and keyframes.

Add a small amount of blur to the picture.

Not sure what the final "look" is that you are going for but here is one way all within Vegas:

1) Insert Text Media onto the timeline
2) Swipe the default Sample Text (72 point) and type a lowercase "L" and press enter about 12 times (so that's "l <enter> l <enter> l <enter> l <enter> l <enter> l <enter>..."
3) Go to the Placement tab, highlight the first keyframe and set X = 0.0 Y = -2.0 (that's minus 2.0)
4) Create a keyframe at the end and set X = 0.0, Y = 2.0
5) Open Track Motion, change to 3D Source Alpha and tilt the frame back in space and enlarge it so that it fills the bottom of the video

You should now have a dashed white line moving toward you from a point in space as if you were driving down a road. This is based on the same idea as the StarWars menu that scrolls back in space. Of course, you can use generated noise media as the background and comp it (parent/child) with the text.

Ok. interesting idea...

I would prolly add a gradient overlay on top too - transparent at the bottom, fading to black/darkness to add impression of depth from FOW
