Hiss Bye Bye

Hi There,

I'm using Vegus Movie Studio Platinum 11.

When I add either MP3 or WAV files, I end up with a hiss and it's loud enough to be distracting. It's overpowering, almost.

What setting have I missed somewhere along the way? I can play the same files in at the same volume in Windows Media Player (or anything else) and there's no hiss.

Any ideas? I'd appreciate whatever you can tell me.

Thanks

Movie Studio doesn't change the sound of a file, unless you apply FX.
Look at which playback drivers Vegas is using, and then look at the mixer controls for that interface. I bet you'll learn a lot. You could have a pair of open inputs causing the hiss.

Hi There,

Sounds like you've been here before.

I've gone to Preferences/Audio Devices and ticked Default All. This gives me Microsoft Sound Mapper as the Audio Device Type.

For the playback devices (stereo and front, rear, and center and LFE), I get Microsoft Sound Mapper.

And I still get a hiss. There's no FX. I get a hiss even if I try with the other devices.

No matter what setup I use, I can't tick the Advanced Button. It's grayed out for some reason.

Are you talking about the Mixer Controls on the timeline? If I click (even a right click) on the timeline Mixer Controls, I can't see any information about the interface. The same goes for the Master. If not, where do I find the mixer controls you're talking about? And the information about the interface?

Thanks a million for your help.

No, you should start with the MIXER CONTROLS FOR THE SOUND DEVICE IN USE.
If "what u hear" or the equivalent is checked, and an analog recording input is open, hiss is exactly what you will get.

Has not one thing to do with Vegas, except asio driver is always preferable to mapper. Hth

Hi There,

I haven't quite figured out what you're saying. Let me know how to do it.

Changing Properties/Audio to a Bit Depth of 16 from 8 helped a lot, though.

Thanks

I can't help you further. Location of controls and setting drivers and record and playback controls is 100% unique to your sound card, OS, and computer manufacturer. I dont think thi is a Vegas question. You may find clues with a search. Best.
