I certainly remember the first domestic prototype machine being shown on the BBC's Tomorrows World' programme. Can't remember the year but I suspect it was very late 60's or early 70's.

Early production models were too expensive to buy. I think our first Ferguson top loader (VHS) was about £18.00 per month to rent.

I got into TV production in 1977, so I started with the Ampex Beep tone editors on a Quad. I never cut the video for editing (well at least not on purpose). That was a real art.

People who are starting in production now don't know how easy they have it. :)
