fxhome just announced HitFilm Pro 3 today, with an expected release date of late November. $299 to buy outright. Discounts for owners of HitFilm 2 Ultimate, etc.
And yes, on the fxhome website (above link) I saw mention that anyone who bought the FX packages that ties into Vegas or Premiere or whatever would be getting HitFilm Pro 3 -- the whole deal -- for free. Look at the paragraphs near the bottom of the link, with the title "Here, have 130 plugins".
"If you were an early adopter of the HitFilm Plugins product earlier this year, don’t worry: we’ve got you covered. Here’s how it’s going to work: If you own HitFilm Plugins, you’ll get HitFilm 3 Pro for free. That’s all there is to it. It’s our way of saying thanks for supporting the product from the start."
Ok I'm kicking myself now. When I upgraded to Vegas 13 I almost paid the $100 extra for the suite which included the latest version of Sound Forge and Hit Film Ultimate. I decided against it because I was more interested in the Hitfilm OFX plug-ins within Vegas which were a separate purchase. Now you get everything as a free upgrade.
I must say I'm impressed with their customer loyality.
Just to clarify, HitFilm Pro 3 is free only for people who bought the plug-in pack -- the FX that work inside Vegas, Premiere, etc., which came out earlier this year and I think sold for $499?
For owners of HitFilm 2 Ultimate, it will normally cost $199 to upgrade to version 3, with a special upgrade deal right now for $169.
But even so, the outright purchase price of $299 for HitFilm Pro 3 is pretty astounding for all that you get. That's $100 cheaper than the list price of HitFilm 2 Ultimate was, with more features, and including the FX plug-in pack.
And to tell the truth I'm finding HitFilm's plugins more effective especially their chromakey compared to Boris Continuum's chromakey. (which I used to love)
Just finished a project where I shot a lot of simple "talking head" shots(nicely lit I might add) recorded with my Ninja Blade... outputting the signal from my old SONY Z7's HDMI port.
So I had these 'beefy" 422 ProRes shots in the Vegas timeline and for the life of me I couldn't get BCC 9's chromekey to stop giving me "dancing-pixels" in the talent's hair. Enter Hitfilm and with a few clicks and simple adjustments... perfection..at least as far as I was concerned.
Oh well, glad to hear I've got a new Hitfilm coming!
We have the plugins but haven't seen any emails from FXHome. Has anyone received concrete details about how/when the free upgrade offer will be available. Thanks.
To confirm how it's going to work for HitFilm Plugins customers - when HitFilm 3 Pro is released at the end of November it'll simply appear in your HitFilm.com accounts. You'll also get an email letting you know that it's available.
Kit - did you activate HitFilm Plugins using a different email address, perhaps? As long as you've activated the plugins at some point in the past you'll get the free upgrade.
I should also note that the free offer only applies to customers who have the full HitFilm Plugins collection.
Any other questions let me know - I'll keep an eye on this topic. :)
My understanding is if you got HitFilm 2 Ultimate with Vegas Suite (as I did) you have to pay to update. But i don't consider £149 a bad deal at this will give me HitFilm3 Pro PLUS the plug-ins which I would otherwise have had to pay for.
I was a little peeved that $169 translated into £149, but I'm delighted to have received an email from FX Home stating they have recognised this discrepancy and are refunding me £10.
Has anyone on these forums used Hitfilm as well as Magic Bullet Looks for the looks effect? I know HF is a lot more in other areas but I am interested in the color grading right now. All input appreciated.
I have used both HitFilm Ultimate 2 as well as Magic Bullet Looks and I feel that Looks wins hands down. It has far more fine controls, many excellent presets, and was developed specifically for one purpose.
While we are on the subject, I must say that although I was initially excited about HitFilm Ultimate 2 when I first got it, I quickly became disenchanted when I ran into one short coming after the next in nearly every project where I used it. Though I am quite sure that HitFilm meets the needs of a great many happy users as a jack-of-all-trades toolkit, I found that did not allow me to create the "Hollywood quality" effects I was striving for. As with most things in life you get what you pay. As such, I am now using the tightly integrated combination of After Effects CS6 + Element 3D + Optical Flares + Trapcode Particular + Mocha Pro, and I am truly very satisfied with the results.
