Hitfilm and Vegas

Is anyone running Hitfilm in Vegas like we run Boris etc? I assume that it will in Vegas 12.

Had a look at it, the particles in 3D space look awesome, but the compositing and mode settings are strange to me.
Looks very cool. the text functions look inadequate.
Any thoughts, experience etc.

Within Vegas you can start HitFilm and tell it to open a certain media file (that one you right-clicked in the Vegas Pro timeline). Once you've done your work in HitFilm, save your HitFilm project and it will appear as Event in the Vegas timeline (it's added as Take to the existing Event).
This way the given workflow get rid of the need of rendering files from HitFilm to get it back into Vegas.

You are right, the particle engine and especially the 3D particles are great. Same for all the tracking features, 3D compositing, 3D model import and the very good HitFilm chroma keyer.

I'm glad to hear that the integration is smooth because I have decided to buy Hitfilm Ultimate. I already have Boris Red, but the 3D particle engine in Hitfilm is far superior (plus you get Mocha tracking). For me, the particle engine alone is worth the price of the product.

The only thing holding me back is VP12. That is, I bought the upgrade but have not installed it due to its relative instability (at least according to some of the posts I read). I currently use VP10e and will stay there until the next build or two.

Will Hitfilm run only with VP12 or can I use it with VP10?

I am having all sorts of trouble getting this feature to work, though I know others are not. I put a support ticket to Sony two weeks ago, but alas I have not heard anything back from there. No surprise there.

To my eyes, it looks like avi. files seem to work fine and it is seamless, but my MTS. are not working at all. I hope I can figure this out soon.

HItfilm is awesome, and is at least somewhat in the ballpark of After Effects, though lesser learning curve. Great piece of software, and great support. They are a young company so I am not surprised.

Just as the launch for the suite was going to occur today, I understand that the integration of HitFilm Ultimate and VegasPro12 has hit a snag. I am not sure what the exact issue or cause is. It is my understanding that this first came to light with early adopters in the European Union, and was not first reported in the U>S>.A

I think it does not work with versions before 12 (both for Vegas Pro and Movie Studio).

On my system it works with Vegas Pro 12 and Movie Studio Platinum 12 but it doesn't work with VP and MS versions before.

Thanks for the feedback guys

I did install the Hitfilm standard as this is 32bit but it appears to have some of the 3D text stuff missing so I cannot generate 3d text as well as some particle aspects… is this right? have been trying Standard to get a feel for Hitfilm so far so good.

I have been using Boris for my 3D text it is a very good ap for text and am hoping Hitfilm can match the text Kerning and extrusion abilities including reflection maps etc.

Hitfilm Ultimate is only 64bit is this correct?

If so I might as well go 64bit as my PC is 64bit and go the whole hog with Vegas 12 etc still on 10e time to be pro active I guess.

@Tech Diver
"...(plus you get Mocha tracking)."

You get a version of Mocha which does not have all the capabilities of the full version. So I guess you could call it Mocha LE.

Rory,

If you mean proper Kerning like in Legacy Text and PTT, I did not see any in Ultimate (may have missed it - similar to NBT I think). 3D Extrusion and reflection maps it does have - actually really nice. Have a look at their video tutorials on Text.

Ok thanks Willem what about extruding an object or a mask, path etc
WillemT wrote on 11/20/2012, 7:14 AM
Extrution is added as a layer property so is applied to whatever is on it - like text or even a 3D model. Not deep enough into it to answer the rest - just playing around.
