HitFilm in Vegas Pro 12

IBC started today in Amsterdam (Fri., Sept 7). The guys at Fxhome have been mentioning for a few weeks that they had an exciting announcement forthcoming and would be showing their stuff in the Sony booth at IBC. This morning they posted a little bit about that. Their HitFilm2 product -- which is a budget priced 3D compositor and FX package -- will be able to integrate into the Vegas Pro 12 timeline. More info can be found here:

I would also expect announcements from Sony at IBC regarding Vegas Pro 12.

"If you’re a Vegas user, you’re going to love HitFilm 2 Ultimate. With Vegas™ Pro 12 from Sony you will be able to directly import HitFilm projects to your timeline and use them like any other media file."

I'll bet those have that have been struggling with Vegas 11 since its release are simply thrilled at this news, yeah?

It appears to be pure silliness at $400. If Vegas is not stable, does NOT play well with others in the NLE business of integration with others brands of audio and video, and cannot perform with timecode intact, etc...why is anyone wanting this efx bundle???
Please tell me that...

I bought my son Hit Film for Christmas last year. He is very much into video editing, but thinks my stuff is really boring. He does videos with lots of gunfire and explosions and uses Hit Film for doing these effects. I originally bought him the scaled down version but upgraded it when I saw his utter disappointment at the lessor version not having motion tracking. Anyway, looking over his shoulder I must say that I am extremely impressed with this program. It is fast, intuitive, and can do most of what After Effects can do except easier and quicker. Being able to use it within Vegas will absolutely thrill him because right now he is exporting video sections with the effects then editing them in Vegas. Actually, it thrills me too. Now I will have to learn it as well. This is way cooler than most of us know.

Here is his latest video. I like it better than the "Bourne Legacy". Notice the Hit Film muzzle flashes, smoke, light from the muzzle flash reflected on the shooter, bullet casings flying out of the guns...absolute 12 year old coolness...

His accompanying Hit Film tutorial is here:

Today's youth seems to be fascinated with peoples brains being splattered all over a wall. Hope it's just a phase.

It's not just kids. When is the last time adult men have flocked to the theaters to see any move that didn't involve gun fights and vehicle chases?

If we had that when I was 12...oh, man, that would have been a blast. Thanks for the vid. Looks like a lot of fun.

Youth or not, my heart sinks at the way our society is heading, with pleasure gained from mutilation and killing. Should we be surprised when some sick individual acts it out in real life?

I don't watch that sort of movie.

I am far too old now, but then again to admit that I was old enough then to participate in and witness the heyday of independent film festival talent in the day of San Francisco.

I now live as an old and retired man in a small town to the north where I was recently invited as a special guest to a regional film and video festival sponsored by the local youth. A youth who I could understand were making the filmic epic statement attempts just as I had done when I was a youth in that previous scene of long ago.

You can imagine my jaw dropped to the floor when I all saw for three continuous hours of screenings... was sabre lights swords of multi-dazzle colors, muzzle gun fire, and blowing up in large smoke events! Ugh! please please spare me the news that HitFilm2 is an important contribution to Vegas! Ugh!

I don't know... When I was a kid growing up in the early 1960's we played "army man" all the time re-enacting the World War II stories that our fathers had shared with us. Machine guns, grenades, flame throwers, fox holes, pill boxes, blown off limbs, bandaged heads, etc. Maybe it's just a "right of passage". We all turned out OK. (i think) ;-)

My son was fascinated with Star Wars and we used a previous version of HitFilms (FXLab Pro) to create a pretty convincing light saber dual. It's great that these creative tools are available to mere mortals.

Yeah walk over to the Sony booth and ask them what they are doing to fix Pro 11, because 12 ain't happening for me until they show some product commitment to the current version.

And I will stick with After Effects. HitFilm looks like a cheap knock off.....sorry.

From their FAQ:
When will HitFilm 2 Ultimate be available?
The release will be in Q4 2012. We’ll have a more specific date soon.

They say they'll offer a Fully Functional Trial so I'll give it a go. Depends on how much 'easier' than After Effects it is, whether I'll invest or not. I just love the CS6 integration though and find myself in Premiere far more than Vegas these days. But heah, whatever gets the job done, right? Maybe HitFilm 2 can be another bullet for my gun. (no pun intended)

Tim20, I'd imagine that if you're in AE a lot, you'd like to get 12 for what appears to be project import export for sequencing all in Vegas (FAR superior than in AE) and then finishing up in AE.

I will not go to 12 for a single feature which has yet to be determined that it will work. I have only been with Vegas for a little over a yr and what I have learned from their commitent to product support is the "drop, kick and run" approach. I also think that will continue because Sony is a big fish catering to a niche market and they really don't care.

I mean honestly, how can you hype a product having GPU accl as a major feature only to later tell users to turn it off if you are having problems. Then they have the nerve to repackage a dumbed down version and call it Vegas Home 12. Check out that forum......same issues as Pro 11

And don't even get me started on the simpliest fixes like the lack of alpha channels on import/export that one user fixed by modifyling the .dll file

Now I will give you an example of another company in a nich market: Cakewalk Sonar. I have used that audio editor for 14 yrs. It cost about the same as Vegas, however with each release they immediately fixed the bugs and kept users informed. When you submit a ticket you get a timely response. When you call them you get good support.

After a lot of experimenting I was able to make 11 stable and it had nothing to do with GPU accl being on or off or using compatability mode. It had everything to do with not using the external monitor preview button and setting ram preview to zero. And that is another sad testement to Sony not even knowing their own issues.

I have Hit Film.. the lesser version. It came with Corel Video Pro program. (I use an assortment of programs for different effects and projects. hit film is a great little program. another one is Particle Illusion originally by Wondertouch now owned by Genarts. This offers an endless variety of FX all are editable and you can create new ones.

I have been reading everyones grumbles about VP11 which I recently upgraded to. as with past experiences i had to uninstall reinstall etc. i am sure it is not so much the software itself more a case of whatever else you have installed, the order inwhich you install programs and plugins and sometimes the hardware as well.
I also grumble about the Windows O/S but after careful studying of the problems find ways around to stablise the O/S and the programs I use.
be mindful of the combinations that precede the installation or upgrade of a program .One little dll that is normally stable can wreak havoc when a new d.. from a new or upgrade program can cause.

i am looking forward to future software upgrades and programs. they are making editing and composing so much easier!
