1.)ati captured mpeg 2 at 640 X 480.

2.)project set to same spec.

3.)still image in preview window compressed on X axis.

4.)preview in motion shows correct aspect ratio.

5.) renderas options at 640 X 480 with 'stretch to fit' selected (or unselected)

6.) preview window plays during render, but compress on X axis.

7.) rendered file is compressed on X axis.

What do I have to do, to get the rendered file to look like the motion preview?

You need to check that your project settings and render settings have the same pixel aspect as the captured video.

Right click on a video event of a captured clip, and check the properties for pixel aspect. Set your project settings to the same value, and also set your rendered settings to the same value.

NTSC DV has a pixel aspect of ".9091", and VideoFactory defaults to that, but if you are capturing sqaure pixel footage (and I bet you are if it is 640x480), then the pixel aspect mismatch would account for the horizontal squash you are seeing.

Match up the pixel aspects and all should be cool-
