How about the Sony Spherize FX? Maybe you could find the adjustments necessary to create the illusion of undistorted -- rather an odd thought come to think of it.
There was a program called Icarus that could do just that and way, way more.
I had a look at the free beta and it sure looked awesome, huge amount of code, made Boris look simple to use and crashed every 5 minutes.
I believe some other company bought the rights, got it to work and sell it for zillions.
Not only could it correct spherical distortion but also parrallax.
It'd also patch parts of frames temporally to remove all the cars from a street or patch multiple pans to shift the POV back or forward, awesome stuff.
I think somewhere I might still have the code, BTW written in the UK I think.
Anyone who remembers that awesome Star Wars knockoff, think it was called "Intermezzo Dualis", the opening sequence in that was done with Icarus. Shot the back ground plates from the roof of his house, then shot further plates from the ground and Icarus could patch the whole thing together so it all looks like one copter flyby.
