O.K., another in this series. I've read the manual on "takes," and have experimented a bit in Vegas with this, but I feel there's something I'm not getting.
Can folks explain how you are using the "Takes" feature in Vegas?
I don't use it regularly, but when I made a 2-disc DVD menu it came in very handy. Each menu had the same design with loads of effects and compositing, but seven videos needed to be changed. When making the second menu I just dropped the new videos on the old ones as takes, and voila.
Of course the whole idea of takes is the ability to switch among them at will, which I didn't use, but I imagine that will be handy someday. That problem is, in a real-world situation, how often are multiple takes the exact same length?
I used it recently on a project where I needed to composite an image sequence and the client had not given me all of the art work yet. Once they did, I just dropped them as takes onto the fine tuned sequence and WALLA! If I ever need to go back to the other images they are there with a keystroke.
I also use it regularly to easily try different clips (and switch clips around) without messing up the original edit. GREAT FEATURE!
I don't have the imagination to preview alternate events or sequencing in my mind, so I'll drop events and images around as "takes" to quickly facilitate reorganizing without reorganizing. DGrob
