How can I be sure I'm using the Vegas DV codec?

This might be a really dumb question, but this has been looming over me for quite some time. I understand that Vegas uses its own proprietary codec for DV. But the only option I see for capture is the Microsoft DV VCR. In the options, I have "ignore third-party codecs" on and "use Microsoft DV codec" off. Am I correct in assuming that I am using the Vegas codec?

You are correct.

Neither the Vegas DV codec nor the Microsoft DV codec are involved in capturing. The video has already been compressed to DV format in the camcorder. When you capture, all you're doing is copying data from the DV tape to the hard drive. Vegas does use some Microsoft code to interface with and control the transport on the DV camcorder, but this has nothing to do with the actual video.
