How can I combine digital with analog video?

I used to videotaped using an analog camara, but later on I bought a DV camcorder. Footage that I am trying to use in a mother's-day project is in "analog format" and the other in "digital format". Obviously, DV format surpasses the other in terms of video quality, and question here today is, "how can I combine these two format to get the best output I can get???". I've heard of analog-to-digital converter, but the cost of such item scares me. Does anyone have suggestions on how to go aroung this situation.
Again, any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Check your camera. Some cameras will allow you to use them as a A/D convertor by passing the video and audio through. Hook up your analog inputes (if you have them) and to your VCR, then hook up the Firewire and do some test.

The other option is to record your analog tape to the DVcam. This is more time consuming, but does still improve the final product.

Very good!!! I never thought of my DV camera being used as a some type of transfer device. It all makes sence though. I will try that.
Thanks a lot. If anyone reading this messages and if you have very good input (such as the one above) please let me know.
Thanks
