Which version of Vegas and where was it purchased? If it's a Magix version (Vegas 14 and later) the activation serial and the email address that was used when it was registered are paired and must be used together.
Magix acquired Vegas and the other SCS (Sony) software titles in 2016.

From the Vegas Help centre re error code 24:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/article/how-to-solve-error-code-24--2/

If you've already registered your Vegas Pro on MAGIX's system and have a MAGIX My Account, make sure that you are coding the same email address as you used at the time of the original registration.

Given that you mention 'Sony Vegas', it must be Vegas Pro 13 or earlier because the last Vegas Pro version released by Sony was version 13 some 8 years ago.

Let's hope that your Vegas Pro was purchased from an official source because there are many unoffical websites offering pirated/cracked copies of recent Vegas Pro versions but still use the Sony brand name. This includes instances where a scam seller privately sells the same Vegas Pro serial number to many people, and error 24 occurs because only one registration can be made with the one serial number. In recent years, there have been reports on the forum from people who have been scammed this way with private Vegas Pro purchases made on Amazon - and error code 24 has been the inevitable result.
