How can I hear plugins real time?

How do I set up my record track to hear a real time plugin such as reverb as I record the track. Can that be done? I do it in another program and would like to set it up in Vegas 3.0c if it can be done. I tried to set it up by picking input from the mic Layla input 6 mono, arming the record button on the track, setting input levels using my Layla concile, assigning a reverb plugin on the track to be recorded with desired reverb setting. At this point I would expect to here the assigned reverb, but nothing. Any ideas on this. Thank you for your help.

Sorry, you can't do this. The latencies inherent in the native plug-in would make it too delayed.

I played guitar thru Dsound Dt-1 in sonar and amplitube in cubendo, and there were no latency problems. The answer is you just cant do this in vegas

To be honest I prefer to give the performer a feed from an external effects unit - my chain will follow thusly:

Input chain:
o Mic (linked to...)
o Joe Meek Compressor
o Input of Soundcard.

Output chain:
o Output of soundcard. (linked to...)
o Input of Mixing Desk

Give the channel a bit of Aux Send...

Headphone Mix for performer:
o Aux out of Mixing desk (linked to...)
o Lexicon FX Unit
o Headphone Preamp
o Headphones

And there you have it... This is useful because I find that a lot of vocal performers like to have quite a bit of reverb whilst tracking - you can then splash on as much as you want without any latency at all. The only pro-quo is that you need a soundcard with Direct Monitoring - eg: M-Audio USB Quattro =)

Thank you for your info. Guess I will have to keep using Sonar for some things. It sure would be great to be able to do that trick in Vegas.
