my new ATI 3850 card includes a DVI to HDMI converter. One of those should be just fine. Or hook it up via VGA cable.

Not sure if it's possible for me to upgrade my card. Can I buy a Canopus converter or run cableing through my Sony HVR-Z1U to the TV to maintain HD signal? For example, right now, using the AV->DV converter function, I hook up my GL-2 between my computer (via FireWire) and my TV (via RCA) so I can use the TV as a monitor. But this is only SD. I want to edit HDV video in Vegas, and view it on the HD LCD TV directly from the computer. I also want to 'Print to Tape' in Vegas and watch it on the HD LCD TV. I want everything to remain high-def.

Please help!

Connect your cam to comp via firewire and your cam to HDTV via best possible option (probably component for that cam?) and select preview on external monitor in Vegas.

I had a similar setup with a 30" monitor but went back to a 19" widescreen monitor. The 30" was just too much on the desktop (unless you have a means of getting it a little further away).

HD or SD?

With SD and HD, you can use secondary monitor through either DVI/VGA (with converter if required) or using the supplied component cable with the card.

SD COLOUR accuracy then do as goshep says

if your card has two video outs (I think all ATI cards have for years, every one I've had after my 8500 has) you can just use that. Technically, a VGA connector isn't HD single, but it can be HD quality (check the manual for the TV on the max VGA res). But you can buy a VGA to DVI, DVI to HDMI converter & then a cable, all set.

I wouldn't recommend the camera just because that's one more thing that can be accidentally knocked over & broken. Most HD camera cost more then a 32" HDTV. :D

Just to be clear. You CANNOT output HDV from the Vegas T/L, so using a camera to go HDV->Monitor simply will not work.
DVI / HDMI is the cheapest way to go. I've you're dead set serious about monitoring HD a HD SDI card and a HD SDI monitor is the best way to go. You might find the last option a tad expensive though.

sure? I can preview on my main monitor (preview device- secondary display device 1) in HD. I assumed it would go over any monitor output.

I just checked, it's definitely not SD (needed to change preview quality to "good-full).
