At the track level, there is Track Motion.
At the event level, there is Event Pan/Crop.
Both are fully explained in the Help section.

I use the crop feature all the time but never saw where I could make the still actually move (I mean move during the video as in shifting it;s position on the fly). I will check that and the track thing when I get home tonight. Thanks

You need to learn what keyframes are. Setting two different points in a pan will create the movement.

In genera it is advised to use pan and crop at the event level for zooming and track motion at the track level for motion. And yes, keyframes are your friend!

I have a feeling that you are just looking for some Pan & Zoom effect ("Ken Burns" effect). However, if you are looking for something a bit more creative in terms of animating stills, try something as found in the movie tutorial here. It is set up for use in another NLE, but you can do everything (& more) in VMS.

Markk, pan and zoom sounds like what I'm trying to do. I am getting no where so far with the Pan?crop feature so far.. I'll work it some more. Thanks

I just figured it out (with y'alls help)!!! You click the check box between Begin and End and go from there. YAY!!! Thanks everyone!

Yea, keyframes are your friend. There is a good amount of ibformation about keyframes in the help files.

Well this is odd, I have version 4.0 and when I search or use the index of the help files there is no "key frame" . When I search on "key" I don't see anything "key frame" related, when I search on "frame" I don't see anything key related. Could the help files use a different term for "keyframe"?

Begin/End, wow! That goes back a long way.

Early versions of Vegas Movie Studio (and before that Video Factory) had only two keyframes for each event, Begin and End, at the beginning and ending simply enough. You could set two different sets of parameters and the motion would flow smoothly from the Begin set to the End set. This restricted you to one motion. If you wanted more than one you had to split the event up everywhere you wanted the motion to change, copy the old End to the new Begin, and then set up a new set of End parameters.

Somewhere along the way Vegas Movie Studio inherited keyframes from it's big brother, Vegas. This allows you to set as many different sets of parameters as you wish without needing to break the event into multiple pieces. It's a very nice improvement.

I don't remember when the change happened, but it might very well have been between versions 4 and 6 (there was no 5). If that's the case then you won't find information on keyframes and using Begin/End is what you'll have to do.

Well to be clear the "begin/end" is meeting my needs nicely. I was going to read more in the help file about the "keyframe" subject but that does not show up in the help fils, at least not using those words.

it's not a big deal though, I am now able to do what I was wanting to do so it's all good!

Well, my point was that if version 4 has Begin/End, it won't have keyframes, so there's no sense in even looking for them.
