How can I play VCD on my DVD player

I have wasted about 50 CD-R's trying to figure out how to play my camcorder video's on my DVD player. I download them using the video capture by SonicFoundry, I edit them the way I want, and then try to burn them usng Nero to VCD or even SVCD so that I can view them on my DVD player. My DVD player says it will play VCD but it will not play a single thing that I burn using Nero. My question is does anyone know how to render video that will be suitable for a DVD player that will play VCD's? I downloaded the MPEG1 and 2 download but I still can't get my DVD player to play the VCD's I burn. Please, someone know what I am to do.

you said your dvd player supports VCD, but does it support CD-R? (is it a sony or a toshiba? - they do a horrible job reading CD-R. also try CD-RW). you can test by putting an audio CD on that brand of CD-R and seeing if it plays. some brands and disc colors work better than others. see www.vcdhelp.com for more info...

You know, I never thought about that but I know for a fact that it does not play audio CD-R. I have A Sharp DVD player. Since now I know my DVD will not play CD-R's, then my next question is how can I cram a whole 16 minute movie on a CD-R for playback for at least on a computer? My 16 minute movie rendered in .avi was 1.5 gigs. I will also look at that website. Thanks!

Render using one of the higher Windows Media (wmv) tewmplates, like 512. 16 minutes should fit on a CD.
