How can I scroll still photos scross screen?.

Siby wrote on 7/21/2006, 3:27 AM
I am doing a project which I need to scroll 15 JPEG images horizontally and or vertically thru the screen. I found that I can achieve this by using track motion and keyframe. But I need a video track for each still. If I do this in one video track next photo won't show in the screen until after the previous one disappeared from the screen. I wanted to move the stills one after another one withtout a full black screen. Can some help me how can I easily achieve this.

One word: Multi-track.

OK, add more tracks and then allow the stills to wander where and how you want.

Track 1 Still-1

Track 2 Still-2

Track 1 Still-3

Track 2 Still-4

.. or .. for more choreography, use as many tracks and interweave and let them dance and spring all over the place.

Tracks are our Friends.

You can do it with a push transition.

May not be exactly what you're looking for but it creates that effect.

Can you please explain how to achieve push transaction?

I added a quickly example, if that's what you want, just go to the transition tab, and find "push".

You can go left-right, up-down, etc...

Sounds like a job for PictureWall.

I think I've got this totally wrong.

I was considering doing this with a Video Scroll I got, and just exchange the Videos for Stills. I've just stopped crawling up the wall.

Yup, go with the PUSH transition. Works very well. Just tried out 11 stills and they are scrolling Right to Left.

You can adapt my step-by-step tutorial on Parent Track Motion and get the effect you want quite easily.

Hey JohnnyRoy, cool tutorial you have there.

I made this with it: (OK - I figured out how to slow it down by stretching it out and moving the parent motion key to the end...)

Parent Motion demo

That was the first time I used parent/child compositing, and it took me a little to "get it", but your tutorial made it easy to understand. Now I have a new tool to play with!

(here was my example with the "push" transition):

Nice demo. I think you’ve got it. I’m glad my tutorial helped.

I am creating a new project following this instructions. The film strip image size is 5700(width( / 280 (height). When I dropped this in to the timeline it appeared to be like a small line in the timeline. Means I am not getting seeing the actual size of the filmstip. I am sure it is lack of my knowledge. Can you tell me what setup I missed here.

Well... compared to the 720x480 resolution of standard definition, 5700x280 is a small strip when resized to fit 720x480 (it becomes 720x35!!!).

Start by going into Pan/Crop and select the Preset: 4:3 Standard TV aspect ratio. This will crop the strip to fullscreen. You can then move or resize the Pan/Crop box to fill however much of the screen you want.

Hi dibbkd, Could you please share the veg file that you created for push transaction demo. I still cannot find out how you moved the pictures. When I use push transaction the first previous photo disappeared instead of moving. Sorry I am fairly new to this editing. Thanks.

I'm away from my normal PC today, but just do this:

bring several JPG's to the timeline
go to the transition tab
find the PUSH transition
choose "left-right", "up-down" whatever
drag the transition between two pics

If you were talking about the demo with the filmstrip, at the end of JohnnyRoy's tutorial he has all the VEG and project files:

I'm away from my editing computer now, but how do you get the black border between the photos (push transition).
Siby wrote on 7/23/2006, 6:19 PM
Exactly. I couldn't figure out 2 things.
1. How do you get the black boarder between the stills.
2. How you move the previous stil to the left/right instead of disappearing with the arrival of new picture.
dibbkd wrote on 7/23/2006, 6:42 PM
OK - final steps:

bring several JPG's to the timeline
go to the transition tab
find the PUSH transition
choose "left-right", "up-down" whatever (regular push, not "push in")
drag the transition between two pics
now, drag the second pic so it overlaps the first about half-way
drag the third pic so it overlaps the second pic
forth overlaps the third... you get the idea.

You have to kinda play with how much it overlaps to get the effect of each picture being on the screen when the other pic pushes it out.

And the black borders are just from the pics.

Can you post a video of what you have so far?

Well, I finally got around to trying out AlanC's Picturewall II program, if you haven't tried it, you should check it out.

It took me just a minute or two to figure it out, and that was without reading the help file...

Anyway, here's a quick demo I did with it:

Picturewall II demo

Remember, this was a real quick demo, it doesn't do justice what you can do with this program if you spend a little more time with it.

Scroll up a few posts to compare this to the Parent Motion demo and the Push Transition.

I think for this example Alan's Picturewall II does the best job.
AlanC wrote on 7/26/2006, 1:19 AM
Thanks for creating the demo dibb. That's a good example of just one of the effects you can achieve with PictureWall II.

I would love to see more examples of what people have done with it.

Excellent dibb!

Ah Alan, just to think eh? And now I have a real good feeling to see the pleasure that - when was it? - initial idea is giving many others around the planet - u-huh? Me Heart's Cockles are gently warming . . . <sigh>

Nice one Alan. Nice one!
