How can I tell what font this is?

Hi there. I'm using Vegas Pro Edit 14, although I've noticed this same issue in older versions (6.0)
I'm opening an old .VEG file from a different computer. Some of the fonts are not installed on my current computer so naturally generated text doesn't display properly in the timeline. But also the actual font name shows up as blank when I try to edit the text.

In situations where I happen to know the exact font, if I install that font and re-open the .VEG it will automatically fix itself and display the correct font. But if I don't know the exact font, and it shows up as blank, how can I tell what the actual font's name is?

Yeah, do check you can see the font with say Windows Notepad. If it is installed you may have hit the VP MIA-Font Bug.

Thanks for the idea. I actually copied the text into MS Word and it told me what the font is so I could find it again. Thanks!

You’re welcome. You’ve been stung by the infamous VegasPro, Font-Bug.

The problem is that this Bug’s infestations is inconsistent and can crawl out on T&T, but scuttles back in Legacy Text. Again, in PTT it can sting yah and then not remerge. Also some Users have Fonts that get Bug-ered, and others not. It was a nightmare for SONY, when they owned Vegas, and it still hasn't been squashed under the new owners. I’ve made videos plainly demonstrating the issues and presented them to SONY. I’ve done what I can. The engineers are well aware of the issue. Having used Vegas since 2002, I’ve invested much time in using VegasPro and much time in learning from and assisting others here on the Forums to stay with the program and seek other Text options. I’ve accepted the shared awareness of the “Knowledge of All Fonts” hereabouts and courted and flirted with other Text Editors. If I need more Text power and flash and more flexibility with Text Graphics I’ve turned to NewBlue’s TITLER PRO Ultimate. It works, mostly. What it does do is reveal ALL my Fonts.

Look, I’m grateful for VegasPro. It’s created a revenue stream for me when, at a time 15 years ago I was so fed up with VideoWave (ROXIO?) and about to throw my DELL Laptop out of the window! I’ve made many, many friends and created a multitude of collaborative partnerships through using it.

My pragmatic view to all of this, is that the Text Bug has truly become the lesser of the two weevils. 😇
