How can there be a tick at a crossfade??

Using Vegas 5 I'm going crazy trying to get rid of a tick at the leading edge of a crossfade. The files themselves are clean. The crossfade looks normal. Dozens of other crossfades in the file work perfectly. Can anybody help?

Second issue, has there ever been a resolution to Vegas's occasional amnesia about crossfades? I just opened a file I worked on last year and found a number of the edits no longer crossfade properly - the clips merely butt against each other, with an audible tick, of course.

Thanks in advance, folks!

PS - Oh, and there's more. Each track individually plays perfectly(there are two at that point in the file). There is only a tick when listening to both tracks together!

Well, I answered my own question. It turns out that my computer configuration doesn't like the "Asio Echo WDM" driver (I have an Echo Mona sound card) and works better with the "Windows Classic Wave Driver." Live 'n Learn.

Glad you got it sorted Doug. Meanwhile if you have any more questions you should go to http://bbvegas.mywowbb.com - most of us Vegas audio guys are mainly hanging out there now.

It's wierd, I've had the same problem recently and it's been bussgin the hell out of me! I've no Echo Mona, but a Delta 44 card, using vegas 3. Luckily, it's on the end of a song, so I render without the fade, then add it later and ussually it works well, but I HAVE in the past run into crossfades in the middle of the song that are just boogers to deal with. I ussually have to resort to rendering the track in question seperately and place it back into the mix.

Are people getting ticks in the rendered output or is this ONLY during playback prior to rendering?

I recently used Vegas 5 on a project with a ton of edits and crossfades. No tics on playback or rendering with Layla 24, using PureWave WDM drivers. Haven't tried with ASIO.

Both playback and rendering, unless I pre-render the track containing the crossfade. It's such a rare thing, but I recall a similar thing happening with vegas 2 back when I had a different computer/audio-card.

I do know it can happen pretty consistently if you are crossfading time-streched audio events. Not sure with Vegas 4 and up... I really believe it's just something to do with my computer, because with Vegas 5 I get this harsh stair-step action with FX automation envolopes. On a completely different computer though it's fine.
