How compatible is VP6 et. al.  with VP20?

I’ve been using VP since VP6 (about 15 years) and have purchased about 15 versions. I sometimes go back to old projects to tweak and with few exceptions, VP20 successfully opens old VP projects, although there are some issues that I will not expand upon until I do additional research. I’m trying to keep this thread simple.

QUESTION:

As a general rule, can I assume that if I made 15 projects over 15 years using 15 versions of VP, that I will be able to open and successfully render projects without needing 15 versions of VP on my PC, one version for each project. If the answer is no, then that would be a nightmare to keep track of what version of VP I used for each project.

I am aware of things like Legacy Text, Legacy Stabilizer, ProType Titler which I have rarely/never used. I’m most concerned with the inability to open a project to edit and update.

I can only speak to VP 12+ but, yes, they open and render in new versions unless there are missing plugins. I personally would prefer Vegas discard antiquated legacy features even if it breaks compatibility, but that isn't how it works.

If you have 15 versions I think you are better positioned to answer your question than most on this forum.

How many projects do you keep track of, 56? 238?

The simple thing is to check all on a recent version, say VP17, see if they are OK and all media loaded, save as ____-vp17.veg . Uninstall other versions.
