One should not expect playback improvements if VP17 already used HW decoder.
@fifonik No program is perfectly optimized. There will always be room for improvement. What this tells us is one or both of two things
1) Either the vegas team made some pipeline improvements which means it plays that clip back more smoothly
or
2) the user hasn't normalized the settings between the two versions and the slowdown is a result of sub-optimal options under the users control.
or
more likely a combination of the two.

I see an improvment with playback of 4K HEVC 60 footage over VP17. Their precacheing of gpu decoding to ram trick when you play a video is working better. But this is just one particular case for a single codec and resolution
Maybe I should explain to some users what so surprised me. At the same time 2 completely opposite messages from 2 different users who apparently have very different experiences, one saying nothing about what he is doing and the other saying exactly what he noticed. That users do very different things with a Vegas program has become clear to me after more than 10 years of moderation at the Dutch Vegas forum.
Totally, because at the moment you see both post at the same time on that place at a user forum you have to decide which one to read first. (For me the second one because I tend always to stay positiv 😇)
