How'd dey do dat?

This video has links to the surrounding map and thumbnails which change "live" and can be used, once the video has run once, to trigger a sort of chapter start:

(I tried posting as a hotlink, but it wouldn't work, so it's back to copy and paste ...)

The video is straightforward enough, but does anyone know the sort of software that uses these links, and how they are embedded in the video?

Thanks - I have a client looking for something similar.

Hey Peter--

If you right click on the interface, you'll see flash 8 player come up. This is flash video embedded in a rich media flash interface.

the general principles involved in this specific app are mostly conained here:

interactivity + multiple .flvs + cue points

Very interesting, nifty concept with the video linked to both thumbnails AND the map.

Anybody have any other good examples of interactive Flash video? I'm very interested in producing video content for Flash-based "company presentations", but I need some more examples to show to get this rolling with a couple clients and their webmasters.

For example, a training video where the user clicked on different parts of a picture or diagram of a machine to show a video clip explaining how to use it or fix it. Anybody seen something like that on the web?

Yes, there are many possible applications.

One thing I'd like to know - does the whole website have to be made in Flash for this functionality, or can this interactive use of Flash be embedded in non-flash sites?

I know very little about websites, just enough to have built one for my daughter's choir, but to my knowledge it's all very modular, and you can build some Flash code and just drop it into place in the conventional HTML structure.

Secondly, I came across a Flash-intensive website yesterday when looking for cellphone information. You might check out www.nokia.com to see what you get when you tell the sitebuilder "I want a lot of Flash!" Don't know if there's any video on the site, though...
