How do I.....

Scenario: I have two video clips on my main track, with a gap of around 10 seconds in between them. I want to insert a photo and have it automatically fill in the gap exactly. I have been accomplishing this by simply dragging the ends of the photo until they are flush with the video clips on each side, but many time when I do it this way, it is imprecise: It either doesn't match up and leaves a micro gap, or esle it overshoots and gives me a cross fade that I don't want.

Any tips?

One tip is to drop the photo on the track above the gap. Drag its ends so they extend past the gap on both sides. Now double click the gap itself and this will make a selection across all the tracks for the duration of the gap. Then press the ‘S’ key to Split the photo to the exact length of the selection. Now move the center piece of the photo down into the gap on the lower track and delete the two ends that got split off. It’s a lot of steps but it gives exact results.

BTW, this is also the way to make generated media like titles a specific length when you create them. First highlight a selection and the right-click and select Insert Text Media... and the inserted media will be the exact length of the selection. (that was two tips for the price of one) ;-)

Do you have "Enable snapping" switched on (it's under "Options")? If not, switching it on should help.
