How do I change Captured Image resolution

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums, and fairly inexperienced in Vegas Video.

I just finished importing 700+ images for a photo montage using a PD150 on a copy stand, importing with the Capture image function of Video Capture. I edited the montage, rendered it to an AVI, and played the AVI full screen on my computer. Most of the images were extremely pixilated. When I went back and looked at the images on the hard drive, about the first 60 images were 654x480, while the rest were 327x240. Obviously Vegas had to stretch the 327x240 to fit the 720x480 screen size.

So my question is why did Vegas import some images at the right resolution and some at the smaller size? Is there a setting I need to change to get Vegas to import at the right resolution all the time?

Thanks
Dan Wolcott

Mooser, welcome to this forum. The folks here are pretty nice, and can give you all sorts of help. I've learned a lot just by hanging around for a couple of years.

Video is a pretty horrible medium, with resolution even under the best of conditions only 720x480 (for NTSC). Sorry to hear that you've already done 700 captures, but those times I've put together a still photo montage I've started with a higher pixel count, such as 1500x1000. In that way your results will be limited only by the final video resolution, not by the source resolution. Another advantage is that you can easily use the wonderful Vegas zooming and panning features to do a Ken Burns effect with the stills.

Getting back to your original question, I think what you did was to capture some stills before switching the Preview window from "Auto" to "Full." So what you captured was just a little 320x240 (or whatever) image rather than the full 720x480 image. But again, it would be even nicer if you could start with higher source resolutions.

I have had the same problem. Grabbing stills from video, at best is 327x240. Captured video is 720x480. Sony says to use the zoom function in the preview window but that doesn't help. nor does switching from jpeg to bitmap. I cant believe that there aren't adjustable settings for this.

When set to "Best (Auto)" - I get 327x240

When set to "Best (Full)" - I get 654x480

When capturing i right-mouse-button click on the preview window and zoom to 100%. Stills will now be saved at full resolution.

I really wish there was an option to always save stills at full res no matter what size the preview window is.
