How Do I Get Finished Project Out?

Randy6957 wrote on 5/19/2003, 11:32 PM
I have a slide show of .png stills all setup on the timeline. Everything plays fine in the preview window of Vegas 4.

When I click on external preview on external monitor, nothing happens. No video is sent to my monitor (TV) however the audio does play just fine out of the audio card. I do have the OHCI compliant device selected under video device under preferences.

Running 2.4 GHz P4 with 1Gig RAM & Windows XP. Firewire is on the MB. D to A converter is a Sony TRV-740 which is supposed to have full pass-through capabilites.

I can capture video from the camera to Vegas and can also use the on-screen controls to control the camera functions. Just can't playback video to it.

I have tried rendering to a .AVI and that will play fine in the preview window but still no video being sent to the camera/TV.

Isn't there a simple way to view the Vegas preview window on my TV/monitor instead of on the computer monitor? Vegas makes so many other things so easy, why is this so hard??

Hmm...

"D to A converter is a Sony TRV-740" - Have you read this in your manual? I've done a quick search on Yahoo for you and presently I can't find a definitive Yes/No to this. Others will confirm or deny.

My advice would be to beg, borrow or whatever a "convertor" to confirm your suspicions " . . . which is supposed to have full pass-through" - yeah? For my money, it wont be V4. I've done firewire DV-AV pass thru' on my Canon XM2. And I've got far less spec on my laptop than you have on your PC.

In summary:

1 - V4 does it and it is simple
2 - I can do it with my Canon XM2
3 - Do a test with soemthing else
4 - Really confirm your Canon CAN!
5 - Set External Monitor Preview to "Best"

Oh yes, you wont get "audio" this you will need to obtain from your audio out plugs and pipe it that way - but I guess you knew this anway.

Can you at least "see" the video on your LCD screen on your cammy?

Best regards

When I bought the TRV-740, another user said he was using it to do D to A. That was months ago when I was researching it's purchase and don't have that users email.

I get nothing on either the LCD or analog output of the camera.

When I do a render to tape, the camcorder will start to record then stop when prompted by V4 to do so. There's just a black screen however.

I can capture video just fine, just no playback or passthrough.

check your manual on the trv. I have to do the following procedure. (trv120) Go to menu button push it, use the exposure wheel to start push it at top line. scroll down to bottom where it says dv in out. Push the sheel to cchange selection to off if it is on or on if it is off I forget. Hit menu button to save setting. Try it now. I have to do this with my TRV it is one way to imput tot he computer via pass through and the opposite to get it out of the computer via pass through.

I believe I did try that last night but it was almost midnight and one eye may have been closed.

All indications are that the TRV740 will do DV to AV passthrough. Is the fact that V4 will control the record and stop functions of the camera any indication that V4 is indeed "talking" to the camera?

If I can not get my Sony camcorder to convert DV from V4 to analog for VHS recording of my project, what are my other choices of getting video out of V4?

My video card does have a composite video output. Can I render to a .avi file and view it full screen in Windows Media Player with decent results?

Canopus DV-AV convertors have been spoken highly of, on this Forum and other SoFO forums.

I've got a TRV840 and have used it successfully to do A>D and D>A conversion.
Sounds like you need to change the menu setting on your camera and turn off the device control in the Vegas preferences.

Dear bdunn:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT FIXED IT!!

Of all the STUPID things!!! Sony has that setting backwards in my opinion!!

Changed the A/V to DV OUT to OFF and it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't tell you how grateful I am to you for taking the time to answer my posting!!! You have saved the weekend and my daughter's graduation reception party!!

I have been boosting to my wife about my new computer and new Vegas 4 software but unable to produce results. She dug out almost 400 35mm pictures of my daughter's first 17 years of life and has been scanning them into my computer for the last 2 weeks!

Now I can finally send my project to VHS (I know....DVD will be next) for viewing by family and friends at her reception this Sunday!! Nothing like cutting it close!!

Again..........THANKS A MILLION!! You saved our weekend!!
