How do i know the output file size of an MPEG???

Finatic13 wrote on 1/31/2002, 4:18 AM
Ive just upgraded from Videfactory 2 to vegas video 3.
When i chose the render process in VF2 , and clicked on the various MPEG and bitrate setting before rendering, it gave me an estimated file size of the finsihed project. Ive tried the same on VV3 but i cant seam to see anywhere where it gives you this info.
Am i missing the obvious??
Help appreciated
Kind regards
Simon

(repeat post)

We brought some of the VF2 wizard behavior over to Vegas 3: Go to tools> burn multimedia CD. You'll see the render page has a file size estimator that will tell you about how big the file is going to be when finished.

This tool is there so you can adjust the bitrate to ensure that the project will fit on a CD. The estimator works pretty well any CBR compression format, but with variable bit rate compression, it won't be very accurate.

You can use this dialog for normal rendering to hard disk- just cancel out of the CD burn process when the render is done.

theres nothing there that says file estimator, only has the choices for all the bitrate etc and in the box be,ow where it says "description" it only has all the specs for the selected bitrate, nothing there that says what th file size will be!!

I, too, am looking for this file size estimator. Please, could you explain it again. I have looked in both the 'multimedia' and VCD options nowhere could I find a file size estimation. VV3a---what am I doing wrong?

Start a new project.

Add a video event to the timeline.

Click the Tools top level menu, select Burn CD>Multimedia CD

This pops up a dialog "Burn Multimedia CD".

Look for the "Estimated size" field.

MHampton correctly points out that "Render loop region only" must be checked for the size field to show up.

You forgot one thing. You have to select the entire range of the project, and then select render selected range only before this shows up. I found the same thing when I upgraded from VF2!
