Is it possible to have one media file with three chapters, select chapter1 and have it end after playing thru chapter 2.
I wanted chapter 1 and 2 to play thru but only play chapter 3 as an option. I know I can do that if I render seperate media files, one for ch1 and ch2 and another for ch3.
Put multiple instances of the same file into the project. Select CH1 & 2 as in-and-out points for one and CH3 as the in-and-out for the second. Should work the way you want it.
Is the selection between the in and out points the only part of the file burned to the DVD?
Unfortunately no. The whole file is burned. Hopefully Sony will change this someday. If you only want to use only part of an existing MPEG file, you must cut it with a program like Womble MPEG Wizard or TMPGEnc. If you will have the original AVI files, you can re-render the MPEG, this time only rendering the parts you really need.
What format is the media that you're bringing into DVDA?
If it's an MPEG, then no...DVDA is going to put the whole file on your disc, no matter what your In / Out points are set at.
If it's an AVI (and possibly other formats as well, I'm not sure....anyone...?), then yes...DVDA should chop off the "unused" portion. I didn't realize this until recently when someone mentioned it in the Vegas forum. Good to know, although I like to have my videos in "final format" before bringing them into DVDA.
Thanks for the replies. Keeps the experimentation down a little.
I bring the files into DVDA2 as mpeg.
It really would be nice if only the selected segments were burned so time could be saved by not rendering multiple files in Vegas.
At least putting duplicates of a file in DVDA2 doesn't increase the size of the DVD so I can set in and out points to have segments run independently.
The nice thing is, it only renders the entire file once, no matter how many ways you cut it up. If it's that big of a deal, you could always re-render the part you want...
