You can't. I just noticed, you cant rename ANYTHING in the media pool. I never noticed because i don't use the media pool: i use the explore window and arrange folders the way i want them. Feature request! :)

Star,

That's not the link. It describes renaming batches of files but not generated media.

Personally, I don't see a way to rename generated media in the pool but you can rename the take. That gives you a custom name on the timeline-but not in the pool.

Maybe there is a way to rename generated media but I don't see it. You could render it, I suppose.

I think that allowing renaming of generated media might open up a nice option in the next full rev of vegas. That would essentially be aliases, or clips by reference. Not only would you be able to rename generated media (by giving it an alias or nickname) but you could select an clip region in the trimmer and drag that region into the pool. It would be handy to put that clip you've time-stretched into the media pool. Of course that also means using the trimmer to do the time stretch or reverse or whatever.

You can also use this to create several by-reference versions of a clip in the media pool. Suppose you want to add a color correction to one version of the clip and a film effect to another version. If you could apply effects to the by-reference clips you could have them ready to go in the pool.

BTW, You CAN use sfvidcap to rename files. The names will be updated in the media pool this way as well. The more I get familiar with this app the handier it gets. It really needs more attention from SoFo.
