The critical question is render for what?
What are you going to play it back on?

I've done a fair bit of multimedia production at larger sizes. If your intention is to show screen captures of software programs, this will work well: Do all your editing and render to avi from VV. Bring the completed avi into Camtasia Producter (www.techsmith.com) and re-render to avi. Even to regular old avi, this really hacks down the file size for some reason. You can get way smaller by encoding to their "techsmith codec", but you'll have to make sure the codec is installed on any computers where you want to view it.
