How do I see the date of clips (and timestamp)?

This may sound like a simple question, but how in the world can I view the dates of my clips without viewing them through the external monitor?

I have been using VV for about three months now and still have not figured this out! Kind of frustrating since VV is such a powerful editor that I cannot simply (and my pee brain lacks the knowledge of how to) see the dates of the footage.

I know this is not an urgent post but would be of great benefit to me...

Thanks in advance,
RogB

VV or very few other NLEs allow you to see the date/time stamp. This is a frequent request and if you do a search you will find how frequent.

I capture tape with ScenalyzerLive, not the VidCap program within Vegas. It's a very inexpensive program, works great, and has the ability to name your clips using the internal date/time stamp.

If you have a DV deck or VCR connected, and are looking at an external NTSC/PAL monitor, many DV devices have a switch or menu device to allow you to display the time/date stamp. This will work whether you're playing a tape or viewing over firewire. (At least, it works this way on my Panasonic AGDV1000.) Check your camera or deck manual.

It DOES seem odd that this function is something even cheap DV cameras can do, but no NLE that I know of can!!!

Date/time stamp is a field in the media pool- Vegas 4 only.

Hey, SonicEPM,

Thanks for the info. Is there any way to capture this info into a running subtitle, superimposed on the video image?

Is this scriptable?

Thanks SonicEpm and the rest of you for your responses...

Is there anyway to view only certain fields in that list?

Yep there is and I figured it out... Chalk one up for the newbie! lol

This is not possible in any easy/automatic sort of way. It might be possible via some wild scripting process but I don't think anyone has written such a thing.

I found this field but it is empty. But I am sure that the info exists in the clip data because other applications can show timestamp.
Could it be becuase of PAL video? Or may because video must be captured by VV, not Scenalyzer?
Could someone confirm that you see the real date and time from your clip there?
And another question: what info is shown in the field? I'm asking this because timestamp in real life is not static, it changes in time.

Basilik
