How do I set up 2nd Monitor . . ?

I give up!

How do I show on my 2nd monitor ONLY that which will be seen WITHIN SAFE areas?

I have a 2nd Samsung Synch Master 172v. In the 2nd Monitor settings there is a looooong list of options. Will any of these give me what I want: ONLY SAFE area Previews?

TIA,

Grazie

Why can't you just go to the preview window and click the safe area lines?

Oh dear . . .

I can see the "Safe Area" in the Preview Window - that's how I know what I should NOT be seeing in the 2nd Monitor Preview. I can also see on my external monitor the finished product. What I don't have on my 2nd Monitor is a "copy" of that which I see on my External Monitor. At the present, if I go by that which I see on my 2nd Monitor, it is TOO near to edge of my External Monitor.

So, that which I design - as per my 2nd monitor - is BIGGER than my external monitor meanig it is closer to the edge. Do you see what I mean?

I want to be able to design within my 2nd Monitor AND have this the same on my External Monitor.

Thanks for trying . .

By golly! Grazie's right! The gridlines don't show up on the 2nd monitor.

Hrmmmmmmmmm.....

Well, there's always http://www.chienworks.com/media/safeareas-pal.gif ... just plop that on a track above the rest of your tracks and drag it out wherever you need it. Mute the track when you wanna turn it off. Best i can do for ya on such short notice.

Alternative idea ... and should very much appeal to the "do-it-yourselfer" in you ... get a sheet of thin cardboard, cut out an appropriate size rectangle, tape it over the screen. ;) Not elegant, but it works!

I see what you mean... but can't quite see around how it can be done differenttly.

When Vegas sends the preview video video out to your external TV monitor it is still sending the entire signal (720x480) right? It's just the monitor (and how it is setup) that determins how much of the video frame will be visible.

In this mode we still all have to respect the safe areas displayed on the internal preview monitor.

It seems to me as if things have not really changed with the introduction of V6's ability to do an "external preview" actually on your 2nd PC monitor.

That monitor still gets the entire video frame... and because PC's don't have this concept of "overscan/underscan" we see the whole thing.

It's still up to us to judge placement / positioning via the internal preview monitor.

However... I can see it would be useful to have the benefits of the "full-screen 2nd monitor preview" and to have the safe areas displayed on there as well.

You can always do it the old fashioned way.....Use a dry erase marker to mark the points on your monitor.

.. oh . . so it ISN'T me . . it is the way things are . . and they wont change. Well Golly Gosh!

Question: Then why is it I can have Safe Areas displayed on my EXTERNAL monitor, when in DVDA2/3, but not in the fabulous NEW feature in V6? Now, where's the logic in that? I was astounded when I first saw the Safe Areas appear on my External Monitor when in DVDA - why can't this be carried over to V6's terrific new 2nd Monitor option? Hmm?

Now, I have to redo all my design today. Yes my fault . . but it shouldn't be thus - it really shouldn't be.

Still in love with V6 . . .

I do totally agree with you Grazie... it would be very nice to have the option of displaying the safe areas through both the regular external monitor out (just like DVDA) and also on the new 2nd monitor external preview. Makes a lot of sense to me.
