How Do I Sync a Digital Portastudio to Vegas?

Greetings. I am new to MIDI, so any help is very much apreciated. I want to dump down tracks from a Tascam digital Portastudio to Vegas, using SPDIF as the signal path into my Delta 1010. I have had little luck syncing the machines. I am running the MIDI outfrom the card to the MIDI in on the Tascam, with the Tascam set as Slave, so I can just hit record in Vegas to start the transfer. I have both set to 30fps/nd. What do I need to do to make this work? Thanks!!!!!!

Sounds like you have most of it set up correct. Did you also set-up in the preferences of Vegas of where to send "midi beat clock"? (ie the preferred device) You must set this up so that it get's sent from your PC to a particular midi port and then you must enable beat block in Vegas. Vegas does not automatically send beat clock, you must enable it. You can setup a button to turn it off and on for quick access or it's also in the menus.

Ok, now that's a question that I had as well. In Vegas, the only option I have for the MIDI Clock is from my Sound Blaster Live. I am using the Delta for input, so it seems that it would follow that the Delta would need to be sending the MIDI code. Do I need to patch a MIDI cable from the Soundblaser MIDI out to the Delta's MIDI in, then send the MIDI out from the Delta to the Tascam? Or is this the completely wrong way to do this?

Ok, thanks to those who responded. Thanks, Peter. Through your walk-thu, I am reasonably certain that I found my error. My only other question at this point is: in Vegas, what should the Full-frame Message Generation be set on (Never, Start and Stop of Playback and Record, For all Cursor Position Changes? I'm going to give the dump-down a try again later this week, using the advised settings. Again, thanks for the help!

Thanks,
Josh
