I just installed DVDA 5 on my PC (I'm already running DVDA 4.5c)...The software is asking for a serial number...Where do I go to get my serial number?

on the "help" menu click "about..." you get your Ser no and your machine ID

Ok--I'm stumped. I uninstalled my copy of DVDA 4.5c and installed the free DVDA Pro 5 update/upgrade. The first time I launched the program it asked for a serial number. The only problem is that I didn’t receive a serial number from Sony along with the download link that they sent me. Anyway, I clicked the option to run DVDA Pro 5 in the trial mode. I then went to the “HELP” menu and clicked on “About DVD Architect Pro”. There I copied the serial number that appeared there. I then went back to the “HELP” menu and clicked on “Enter Your Serial Number”. I then pasted in the serial number and restarted the program (Why I did all of this, I do not know). Unfortunately, DVDA Pro 5 is still running as TRIAL software (according to the program, I have 30 days left to purchase the software!) I don’t get it. I thought this was a free upgrade to recent purchasers of DVDA 4.5! (I bought DVDA 4.5 back in April 2008) What am I doing wrong?

I simply installed DVDA Pro 5 without uninstalling 4.5. All loaded fine and no need to enter serial number as picked this up from 4.5 installation - the latter being overwritten by version 5.

I have not yet produced a project under DVDA Pro 5, though programme does seems to be functioning okay.

If you are logged on to this website, the serial numbers for your registered software can be found via the 'My Account' -> 'My Software' menu at the top of the page.

Since this is a free upgrade, the serial number for 'DVD Architect Pro 4.5' is the one you need.

Please note that DVD Architect Pro 5.0 is a free upgrade if you're using DVD Architect Pro 4.5. If you're using Movie Studio, it won't accept your serial number.

For the record, the number in the About DVD Architect window is not your serial number. That's your license number. At any rate, it won't work for registration purposes (except, maybe, if you called Sony and registered verbally. Maybe).

The Serial number shown in the window IS the serial number for the original installation. I have just checked this with Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Pro 5 - the latter being the original DVDA Pro 4.5 serial number.

I registered online when originally installed and, so far, have not had to telephone SCS. I wonder whether the problem could rest with an incorrect installation or non valid software. Can only speak from my own experience - so far, good.

If that's the case, Sony has altered what they show in the About window. The machine I'm on at the moment only has DVDA3, and the number there is completely different from my serial number.

Huh.

I'm having the same problem.
Got the Em. Did the download.
Now it wants a new number key.
Hope some one can answer this?
Thanks
Sam

I notice from your forum contributions that you have Vegus Studio 8 Platinum. As has been answered elsewhere in these forums the upgrade to DVDA Pro 5 is only free to those who have Vegas Pro 8 - DVDA Pro 4.5 was part of the package with Vegas Pro 8.

Unless you also have Vegas Pro 8 then no matter what serial number you put in in will (maybe 'should') not accept it.

Here is a copy of the part of the email I recieved.

Now you can author high-definition movies on Blu-ray Disc as easily as authoring DVDs, with new Sony® DVD Architect Pro 5 software. Just like previous versions of DVD Architect Pro software, version 5 has powerful features for creating customized backgrounds, motion menus, buttons, text, effects, and more. The workflow for authoring a Blu-ray Disc is the same as authoring a DVD. In fact, you can author a project once and burn it to Blu-ray Disc or to a standard-definition DVD

----------Free to registered DVD Architect 4.5 users!*------------
Download DVD Architect Pro 5 with Blu-ray Disc authoring.

As you can see it does not specify "PRO"

Am I reading this wrong?
Thanks

The Free upgrade is for DVDA Pro users only, you will have to purchase it if you just have DVDA studio...We payed premium for The full Vegas 8Pro thus we get it for free...Others who bought the Lite versions of vegas 8 without DVDA Pro or owners of Architech Studio must pay for the upgrade...sorry..Its only fair.....

I have only just logged on so apologies for delay. The important words are those indicated by the single * - if you follow to the footnotes this reads:
'DVD Architect 5.0 requires the DVD Architect serial number included with your Vegas Pro collection. Offer does not apply to users of the stand-alone version of Vegas software.' I think that makes matters clear(er).

Sorry if that sounds somewhat pedantic, but probably because it is.
