how do most dvd recorders work..

in regards to how they store the recording on the disc?? is it an avi file, mpg? how would you then take the disc and transfer the recording onto your PC? can you copy it directly or does it require some mucking around? in case it isn't obvious, i'm talking about recording a program off the TV..

They're stored in standard DVD format, which means a collection of VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder. Vegas has a File / Import / DVD Camcorder Disc function that should import them just fine.

one more thing.. do you know if the direct to dvd from tv quality is better than direct to VHS?? tv signals always seem to have at least some amount of interference..

VHS = BAD. It would be hard to imagine anything being worse than VHS.

Probably the reason you notice the interference more in direct TV signals is because VHS is so low quality that the interference gets washed out too.
