I've deleted files from my drives. I now have RED diagonal lines thru and greyed-out Media files in Media Manager. How do I remove these "deleted" files from MM? I've read Online and followed diractions within the menus but I still don't get it.
Greyed out (grid & list views) or red diagonals (thumbnail view) indicate offline files.
For selective removal, just select the item and hit delete key - or the remove context menu.
For bulk removal, use the advanced search pane filter to show only those files which are offline. Then ctrl-a to select all and delete.
The fastest way to get the media manager to check every one of your files in the library to see if it is online/offline is to use the media manager options > media library tab > update feature. We don't automatically check every file when we open the library because
a) the time hit this would take for large libraries
b) not being able to guess correctly about the state of the PC (i.e. maybe you simply have a firewire drive powered off at the moment which would cause the media manager to believe everything is offline, when really you just need to power the drive on).
Oh yes, of course, but there was a huge amount. I did do this for one or two and then thought this was going to take me all day.
"For bulk removal, use the advanced search pane filter to show only those files which are offline."
Now THAT was exactly what I was after - GREAT!!! I was looking for a column with a TITLE offline .. the SEARCHING feature is a real boon for such a messy editor as I.
I did use the update feature - this confirmed the mass of stuff to be "removed".
"We don't automatically check every file .. . " ok, good to know, I just wanted to delete remove the disk deleted stuff - thanks again.
. .And YES! Leaving "1" or ALL my firewire drives off-line on start up and THEN have MM delete the files would be a little erksome. GOOD CALL Sony!
.. oh .. just got rid of 606 files - I feel so much slimmer!
