How do we achieve 'Stencil Alpha' (AE layer mode)?

In AE I can place a black and white layer in a comp and then choose 'Stencil Alpha' mode which basically makes the layer act as an alpha map for everything below it.

I cannot find a way to do this in Vegas Effects. The layer options don't appear to be there (of course) but I cannot figure out an alternative or practical work-around for this.

Can anyone tell me how I might be able to do this?

You might want to look at the Set Matte effect

ASUS PRIME Z390-P motherboard
Intel Core i7-97000K @ 3.6GHz

Oh sweet. Thank you! This does the trick. It does take a few extra steps than AE but the result looks good.
Instead of it being the mode of the top layer (black and white) I have to make an extra comp, drop that desired comp into it, then drop add the alpha map layer, add Set Matte affect to the desired comp and choose that image as the source. (if that makes sense.).

This helps a lot. Now I can actually see what my fx are going to look like before having to render and assemble them in another app.

Still would be cool if they improved the workflow in Vegas Effects. So much untapped potential in that app.
