How do you address mosiac noise on DVD

I have made an observation lately while previewing my productions on DVD. At no particular instance the play back will display some mosiac noise. This usually happens well within the video 60 minutes or more.

It is unfortunate becuase sometimes I am viewing this with the client. I explain to them that it is a random event and may not happen again or in the same spot. It could even vary from one player to another.

Besides compatibility by the manufacturer is there a reason this could happen? What do you say to your clients if you have experienced this.

I us Ritek G5 media, inkjet printable.

Can you better define 'mosaic noise'?
Is this fairly large blocks, i.e. macroblocks?
Or is it really small, around one pixel sized?

If it really is random then it sure isn't the fault of the authoring process.
What might have something to do with it is if it always happens towards the end of the DVD and the disk is fairly full then it's quite likely a problem with the media / DVD player. DVDs play from the inside out and the outer area is the most prone to damage and the hardest for the player to play.
Try different media and keep the DVD less than 95% full might help.

What bitrate do you use when encoding? Average bitrate? Maximum bitrate? Minimum bitrate? You can get plenty of this sort of problem if you use the wrong bitrates.

Thanks for the feedback it has taken me a while to respond. I define mosiac nose similiar to what we see sometimes on miniDVD playback.

I would desribes as... brief large blocks... horizontal in dimenision.

Reflecting on the most recent expereince I would comment that it happed towards the last portion of the video, well over an hour.

Thanks again
