Do any of your friends have Vegas installed? That will do it.

I don't have any friends using the SF products. I have some friends working at some pro edit houses, but I didn't want to bother them until a last resort. I thought there might be a program on Download.com for example. I tried a program called Konverter from Download.com, but although it claimed to be able, didn't. Any clue to some shareware or freeware...?

I've also scanned the INTERNET for you, as I would be interested as well! No luck so far.

When you say WMF, I assume you mean a Windows Media File (.wmv or wma) rather than Windows Meta File (.wmf).

So far, there is no coverter that has reached popular acceptance. Most people are still building filter graphs to decode Windows Media Videos.

The instructions on how to build a filter graph are located here:

Hope this helps.

As mentioned by Chienworks, Vegas Video will do it. Another program that will do it is Videowave.

Be aware, however, that this is not a program I recommend for your other video editing tasks, as it is quite buggy. You're much better off with VF or Vegas.

Try the following link from the wwug forum for converting a wmV file to an avi:

http://www.digtv.ws/html/convert/convert-util.php

I haven't tried it, so I can't speak for it, but it's free. And - stay AWAY from the darkside (videowave), at all costs...

(now I notice discdude gave the same website link...)

The little program didn't work too well. Playback stopped after 2 secs of conversion. Almost, but not quite. It didn't work for converting to AVI, but did work if I converted to MPEG, and chose the Video MJPEG codec and the Audio MP3 Codec, but just did 2 secs of footage. Drat...

Don't know if this was by accident, but I loaded a wma file into the time line in Windows Movie Maker and it let me convert it to an .avi When you click save movie it brings you to a settings prompt. Select other and there you will find the avi option. Hope this helps.
